Charles and Carole
Bucky and Carole Sydnor have been reappointed by International Ministries to serve in Nepal, a country where they previously served from 1978 to1987. They will be based in the Kathmandu Valley, which has one of the largest concentrations of population.
Nepal is one of the world's poorest countries, with one of the highest infant mortality rates in Asia. Traditionally Hindu and;Buddhist the country was granted freedom of religion in 1990 by the Nepali government. Today there are some 80 churches and 300 fellowships related to the Nepal Baptist Church Council.
Bucky, who most recently served as International Ministries' World Relief Officer, will work as a foreign relations coordinator with Human Development Community Service (HDCS), a non-governmental Christian organization based in Kathmandu. HDCS is committed to holistic mission in Nepal, and focuses on the great need for social ministries such as health, education, job training, and community development. HDCS runs two successful district hospitals that are partially supported by government subsidies. With his skills in English language and organizational management, Bucky will assist HDCS in implementation of various development projects, as well as relationships with foreign donors.
Carole will also work with HDCS to coordinate language and orientation of the international staff who come to work in the district hospitals. She will have additional responsibilities in women's ministries.
Bucky and Carole will relate informally with individuals and churches in the rapidly growing Nepal Baptist Church Council, in areas of discipleship and leader development.
The Sydnors have three adult children.
